Students arriving on Brock’s campus this week will inevitably be looking for some stress relievers amidst the flurry of chaos that so often happens this time of year. Right here on campus, Brock Recreation has expanded their offerings so that students can stay active and involved while still adhering to COVID-19 restrictions.
Through Brock Recreation’s website, students are able to reserve spots at a number of different facilities in the Walker Sports Complex. This includes the recently renovated Zone Fitness Centre, the Alumni Field, the Eleanor Misener Aquatic Centre, and the outdoor tennis and basketball courts. Students will also soon have the ability to reserve spaces on indoor courts through the same online booking system.
Though the Walker Sports Complex is currently only open to registered Brock students, it is important to note that membership cost for students is entirely included in ancillary fees, which are due along with tuition on Sept. 8.
Students can expect to read and sign a few COVID-19 related waivers when they go to reserve their time slot. It is also encouraged that students only book times when they know that they will be able to attend. Any cancellations can be done by completing a brief cancellation form, which is also found on Brock Recreation’s website.
In addition to the facilities being opened for student use, Brock Recreation has also announced their fall lineup for intramural leagues. Popular intramural leagues such as flag football, soccer and volleyball are making their return this semester. Meanwhile, there will be intramural leagues running for the popular lawn game Spikeball, as well as an “Extreme Intramural” league, where students can try their hands at a different sport every week.
Furthermore, there are alternative offerings for Brock students looking for a little friendly competition from the comfort of their own homes or residence rooms. Esports leagues are available for students looking to play FIFA 21, Madden 21, NBA 2K21, NHL 21, or Rocket League. These video game leagues are available on both PlayStation and XBOX consoles. Finally, fantasy leagues and pick’em pools are available for fans of the NBA, NFL or NHL.
Intramural leagues start as early as Sept. 12, so students will need to act fast if they want to get in on the action.
Students can register for intramural leagues as an individual or as a member of a team through the IMLeagues website. The full list of intramural offerings can also be found on this page.
