Editorial: Reflections on 2020

A few thoughts on political radicalization

Photo Credit: Shutterstock.com     Last week I chose not to write about the storming of the US Capitol because I felt my views were expressed fairly well by everyone else. I was horrified to watch what was a blatant attack on the world’s largest democracy....

    • No Strings Attached

No Strings Attached is a romantic comedy about Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher) – long time acquaintances, who, after moving to the same city, decide to be friends with benefits. I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. I expected a standard film with sex jokes and cheesy love lines, and, admittedly this movie did have that (I suppose if it didn’t, it wouldn’t really be a romantic comedy).

I had a hard time picturing Liam Neeson in the action movie that Uknown’s trailer presents. Thankfully, this film (like Taken, also staring Neeson) is more of a mystery with some good action scenes. The actors work well together, and have quite good chemistry when appropriate.

      Hall Pass

The idea behind Hall Pass is unique, and although crude, yields some interesting potential for comedy. Unfortunately, this movie completely misses the mark and relied on shock humour to carry the movie. I did laugh, and there are points I enjoyed. However, the majority of these moments I had already seen in the trailer.

    • What goes up, must come down

After a regular season filled with promise and playoff hopes higher and stronger than the spikes in Pauly D’s hair, the Brock University Women’s Hockey team saw their 2010-11 OUA season come to a screeching halt on February 26. They fell 3-1 in the second game of their best-2-out-of-3 semi-final series against the No.

Women’s BasketballThe Brock University Women’s Basketball team (14-8 OUA) had their season come to an end at home on Feb. 23, as they gave up a 17-point lead to the Lakehead Thunderwolves. They eventually lost by a final score of 85-80. Down by 15 points at recess, Lakehead would go on an 11-2 run midway through the third quarter to cut the lead to just five heading into the fourth.

Dissecting the Men’s Basketball season that was

What happened out there:Over the course of the 2010-11 Men’s Basketball season, the Badgers experienced growing pains under a new regime. Look no further than their absence from the playoffs for the third consecutive year. Their most recent appearance in the OUA playoffs was capped off by a 2007-08 CIS Championship – something still fresh in the minds of their bench boss and athletics department leader.
