With the changing leaves, fall is a beautiful time of year. Why not head out into the country and see what the Niagara Region has to offer? You do not even need to go very far.
The Howell Family Pumpkin farm, located at 2878 Holland Rd. in Pelham, is just a short drive away from Brock University and offers plenty of fun and unique attractions. It’s a great place to revisit your childhood, have a good time with a few friends or do some seasonal shopping. Go for a scenic wagon ride or hike on one of The Forest Walk’s two trails to get a great view of the Niagara landscape. There are Halloween displays across the property from scarecrows to a skeleton band and even a pumpkin dinosaur. Stay after dark and there is also a pumpkin light show.
Have any kids or younger siblings in town? Take them by the farm to enjoy a number of fun activities including a haystack trampoline and a chance to go jumping in the straw. There is also an animal farm and pig races.
They may not have a haunted house, but a Haunted Spook Barn is sure to give you a fright.
Howell’s also has a vast corn maze with a “Clue” type theme to it. Explore the maze while collecting hints on the mystery. Where did the crime take place? Who did it? What was the weapon?
There are fun games like the pumpkin slingshot. Why not pay the farm a visit in full costume? Bring a few friends and add to the experience.
If you are hungry and looking to try some unique foods the farm has a market as well with lots to choose from. Classics like hot dogs and hamburgers are available but make sure to try the mild and spicy pumpkin sausages. On the sweeter side, you can find pumpkin donuts, caramel corn, strawberry funnel cakes, apple pie donuts and more. The market is also home to Fudge Island. There are many flavours to choose from including pumpkin nut pie, chocolate pumpkin pie, s’mores, amaretto chocolate swirl and many more.
Entrance to the market is free, but a $5 general admission is needed for the rest of the farm. An adventure pass can also be bought for $15.
