On Jan. 30, 62 Haitian children disembarked on an Air Canada jet and fled to the arms of their new families, despite the viciously different weather conditions in their new home country.
This was the third plane of adoptive Haitian children to arrive in Ottawa since the earthquake. The first flight, with 28 children on board, arrived on Jan. 24. Another group of 52 children arrived on Jan. 27.
Of the 62 children that most recently arrived, almost half were under the age of two, with ages ranging from three months to 17 years.
Immigration Canada has announced that the Haitian government has given permission for 217 children to come to Canada. In every adoption case, the process had begun before the earthquake.
