The Brock Badgers women's volleyball team had their backs against the wall entering into their final regular season home game of the 2009-2010 season. Their opponents, the McMaster Marauders, sat in first place in the OUA West, and had lost only one game so far this season.
As their playoff hunt continues, the Brock women's hockey team continues to claw their way up the standings in search of sneaking in the back door and having the opportunity to recreate the magic that existed just one year ago. After disposing of the Waterloo Warriors the night prior by a score of 5-2, the Badgers hosted the Laurier Golden Hawks on Jan.
It takes a lot to be a leader; hard work, dedication, patience, and experience. For Lauren Stewart, captain of the Brock Badgers women's basketball team, being a leader is just a part of her game. Stewart, a fifth-year Badger, has played on the team every year she's been at Brock, even though she chose to come to Brock for its academic programs, not basketball.
Mike Green currently leads all National Hockey League defenceman with 52 points, yet he is not one of the seven d-men heading to B.C. to participate in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. A player who had a breakout year last season, garnering a career-high 73 points and earning himself a nomination for the Norris Trophy, the Calgary, Alberta native was nowhere to be found when Team Canada Executive Director Steve Yzerman announced his long-awaited list of 23 players who will take to the ice in Vancouver.
Men's Basketball The Badgers (7-9 OUA) split a pair of games on Jan. 27 and 30, falling to Laurier 75-58 at home, before defeating Guelph on the road. Versus the Golden Hawks, Male Athlete of the Week Clinton Springer-Williams had a game-high 27 points and seven rebounds.
On Jan. 29, Clara Hughes, a five-time Olympic medalist in cycling and speed skating, accepted the flag-bearing honour for Team Canada at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The honour is without question one of the greatest privileges in Canadian sport.

Male Athlete of the Week Men's basketball player Clinton Springer-Williams, a first-year Psychology major, led the Badgers to a 1-1 record versus Laurier and Guelph on Jan. 27 and 30. He averaged 21 points and six rebounds throughout the two contests to remain atop the OUA and CIS ranks for rookie scorers.
