Lest we forget

As the Canadian flag was lowered to half-mast at the Main Street cenotaph on Nov. 8, the crowd and surrounding street - often riddled with a stream of cars and motorcycles - fell eerily silent. Bells announcing the beginning of mass in the surrounding Churches tolled on cue, and the crowd, consisting of War Veterans, Municipal and Provincial politicians, families of veterans and young and old Port Dalhousie residents alike, stood in remembrance of the fallen soldiers who fought during the Great Wars, as well as those who have passed on since.

Campus Store breast cancer campaign featured on CNN

Last year the campus store at Brock ran the "Brock Cares" breast cancer fundraiser. This year, they've gone with a more edgy approach. Chances are, you've noticed. The "Save the Ta-Ta's" campaign has been running at Brock since the beginning of the term, but was especially promoted during October, which is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month".

Brock well represented in Best Lecturer contest

TVO's annual "Best Lecturer" competition is in full swing once again this year, and Brock is very well represented. The contest, which allows students to nominate their favourite professors, recently announced its official list of nominees for 2010. A record 332 professors accepted their nomination, including 12 from Brock.

Afghan run-off cancelled,Karzai dubbed president by default

On Nov. 2, after cancelling the run-off Afghan election, officials declared incumbent president Hamid Karzai winner of the August elections which were reportedly met with controversies and electoral fraud. This development seems to represent a "new chapter" in Afghanistan's and the international community's pursuit of improved governance, security and development in the country.

Agreement signed to protect the polar bears

Canada's Environment Minister, Jim Prentice, Nunavut's Environment Minister, Daniel Sewchuck and Greenland's Minister of fisheries, hunting and agriculture, Ane Hansen, met in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland on Oct. 30 to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and demonstrate their dedication to the conservation of the polar bears that all three locations share.

Honduran coup hits close to home

Manuel Zelaya, the democratically elected president of Honduras was removed from his position and forced by the military to flee to Costa Rica on June 28 of this year. Since the coup d'état, Honduras has been ruled by an illegal regime headed by Roberto Micheletti.
