Badgers rout Gryphons in possible playoff preview

The Brock men's basketball team was at their literal best Saturday afternoon, hosting - and soundly defeating - a gritty Guelph Gryphons squad with whom they are fighting for pole position in the OUA West division. Heading into the game, Badgers guard Mike Kemp and his band of overcharged teammates sat tied in second place with Guelph, just one game behind the equally tough Windsor Lancers.

Brock hockey closing in on school win record

The Brock men's hockey team snapped a three-game losing streak this past weekend, recording wins over UOIT and Ryerson. On the road Friday, the Badgers were able to squeak out a 3-2 victory over the expansion University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) Ridgebacks before coming home Saturday night to play host to the Ryerson Rams.

Two wins are two wins, and that is good news for the Brock women's basketball team. After conquering divisional foes Laurier and Guelph, the Badgers now sit in a third place tie in the OUA West. Though as successful as this week was for Brock, it certainly did not come easy.

IceDogs goalie Dahminates competition

The Niagara IceDogs came away with their fourth straight win on Sunday beating the Sarnia Sting 3-1 at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. The game showcased two of the top five prospects in the Ontario Hockey League - projected first-overall pick Steven Stamkos of Sarnia and Niagara's very own Alex Pieterangelo.

Forty-one years and counting

With two straight years of no playoffs, a current standing of last place in the division, and a public out cry similar to that of a tax increase, John Ferguson Junior had reached the end of his tenure as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The man chosen to temporarily come in to clean up the mess is former general manager Cliff Fletcher, who coincidently was in charge the previous time the Leafs were in last place.

Sports Briefs

Brock News: The Brock wrestling teams placed second overall at the 2008 Ontario Junior Provincials on the weekend. Jazmine Mian was the only female gold medal winner, attaining first in the 48kg weight class. Laura Steffler had a solid outing, placing second in the 72kg class and Celeste Rodriguez and Alishah Depass both finished third in the 59kg and 82kg weight class respectively.
