On Feb. 18 the Brock Badgers were in a position not many would have predicted - game three of the OUA playoffs at Western. When the two teams were paired up to play in the first round, not many gave the Badgers a chance, and who could blame them, with Western having owned the Badgers the last couple of years.
On Feb. 17, when the majority of Brock students were heading home for some rest and relaxation, the women's and men's wrestling teams were just beginning to rev their engines. The two teams travelled to the University of Toronto where they competed in the annual Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Wrestling Championships.
What is the most exciting day of the year? Some might say their birthday. Others might say Christmas. For those university students living off of Mr. Noodles, it is probably the day that their OSAP comes in. However, if you are a diehard hockey fan, then the most exciting day of the year is without a doubt the National Hockey League's (NHL) trade deadline day.
With a playoff berth still at stake, Brock hosted Waterloo that would most likely send the winning team into the playoffs. On Feb. 23 the Badgers had one goal in mind - to beat the Warriors. It came down to the current sixth place team, Waterloo, holding a one-point edge on the seventh place Badgers.
My reaction, along with several others, was the same: "We have a ringette team?" Evolving out of a shinny league team in the Niagara Region, Brock student Elysia Muise, put together a team to represent Brock at the University Ringette Challenge Cup. The only university tournament available for the team, the Ringette Challenge Cup was held in Ottawa earlier in the year and had representatives from Carleton, Laurentian, Waterloo, Calgary, Ottawa, Trent, Alberta and Manitoba.
