Liberals defeated; election looms for Jan. 26

After almost a year-and-a-half of scandal, struggle and ineffectiveness, a united opposition finally pulled the plug on the federal Liberal's minority government. Prime Minister Paul Martin will meet with Governor General Michaelle Jean Tuesday to ask her to dissolve parliament and set in motion the election campaign, which will likely run to a Jan. 26, 2006 election. This follows Monday night's confidence vote that signified the end to a 17-month reign for the Liberals. Martin's government floundered through their term, barely holding on to the support of the New Democratic Party (NDP), who propped up the minority.

BUSU referendum passes both motions

Brock University students not only voted yes to pass two referendum questions facing the school this past week, but they also set a record for the most popular referendum questions in Brock history with the Strategic Expansion Fund passing with 91 per cent voter support.
