MuchMusic's Nardwuar makes Canadian history rock out

By Jessica Klement

If you have seen Nardwuar's many interviews, heard him on the radio in Vancouver or seen his band, the Evaporators, you know that Nardwuar is a strange character. His tendency to obsess on everything from Courtney Love to cheese and his screechy voice will make you either love him or hate him.

Rodman Hall hosts exhibition of women artists

By Chris Dart

Rodman Hall saw the opening of its first major exhibition since Brock University acquired the gallery in September 2003. The exhibit, entitled Revealed: Women's Voices, featuring art by local female artists, opened on Feb. 29. The exhibit was the brainchild of Debbie Slade, managing director for Brock's Centre for the Arts, and Elizabeth Chitty, a local multimedia artist who has been helping the Centre for the Arts in their community outreach efforts.

Gibson's Christ film both shocking and beautiful

By Matthew Melnyk & Asheley Formosa

The Passion of the Christ is a two hour historical reflection depicting the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. Although this piece is entirely spoken in Aramaic and Latin, do not let this deter you from attending, as there are English subtitles for the audience's benefit.

Judd thriller Twisted very awful, but not boring

By Travis Lowry

Wow. What a mess. Twisted is a movie so inadvertently hysterical that one rues not watching it with Tom Servo and Crow. Twisted marks yet another entry into the Ashley Judd-starring implausible, plastic-thriller genre that she must own a patent on, because I can't think of any other reason why she keeps making these movies.

Brock Boy/Brock Girl

By Beth Maher

Maybe I got a bit lazy this week. Not that the calibre suffers for it, but I'm not gonna even try to deny that Julia Kirkham is Aaron Bronsteter's girlfriend. I really try to stay away from shady nepotism, but sometimes I can't help it. I know some damn stylish people, and sometimes when I'm on a deadline, they find their way into this page.

CD reviews

Stereolab Margerine Eclipse Do you ever sit around in a perfect circle on a shag carpet with the biggest group of art fags on earth, smoking dope and talking about outer space and interior design? If you do you're probably a monster Stereolab fan. Stereolab's new album the Margarine Eclipse is the most recent soundtrack to the mod-hipsters daily life.

New exhibit examines issues of religion

By Kayla Hillier

The Niagara Artists' Company's newest two artist exhibit, Ethereal Constructions, is held together by one overriding theme; religion. The choice of topic could not be more timely, given the controversy surrounding the film The Passion of the Christ and the current theological debates surrounding the issue of gay marriage.

Chit chat with riff raff

By Malin Jordan, The Link

MONTREAL (CUP) - In Montreal for a few days from Halifax where they film their show, Robb Wells (Ricky), Jean Paul Tremblay (Julian), Mike Smith (Bubbles) and Jonathan Torrens (J-Roc), all agreed that the city inspired them to write the first few drafts for their new season.

Prison artist: 'I prefer to be silenced rather than be silent'

By Alex Redgrave, The Link

MONTREAL (CUP) - Peter Collins is an artist and an inmate with lots to say, even from behind bars. His work frankly depicts, and often criticizes, Correctional Services of Canada, where he has served 20 years of a 25-year to life sentence. The one-man exhibit Bound and Gagged: When Art Becomes Contraband has therefore been branded as "art that clawed its way out of prison.
