What you need to know about the job:

The position is on contract from August 2018 – April 2019. You must be available for all Production Days, which is every Monday starting at 9:00 a.m. If you have a class you’re allowed to step out. There is a training weekend in late August, which all employees are expected to attend.

Arts & Culture Editor – This position covers arts & culture events around the University and the Niagara Region, this includes but is not limited to music/concerts, arts, films and plays. This position will also write reviews regarding relevantly new films, albums and books.

The Arts & Culture Editor is required to write two to three articles per publication of about 700 words in length, with an additional article that will go online during the week. Number of articles needed could increase depending on the week. Every writer will be aware of their article topics by Tuesday afternoon and have a deadline to complete the articles by Saturday 5:00 p.m. Editors are required to brainstorm stories that include on-going campus and local events and investigative pieces. Editors must attend the events they are writing on and conduct interviews – representing The Brock Press in a professional manner.

As the Arts & Culture Editor, you are required to supervise one assistant, who will help fulfill the section each week. The Arts & Culture Editor is also required two hours of office hours per week and is expected to attend a weekly staff meeting. Applicant must be available on August 25 and 26 for training and available on Monday’s as detailed above.
