The celebration of the bicentennial of the War of 1812 is far from over. This summer you can experience the Bicentennial anniversary of the historic war in a number of ways. In Port Dalhousie, at the north end of St. Catharines, the Tall Ships event is set to take place from June 29 to July 1.

Response to ``Former Badger goalie Mark Yetman sentenced to 2 years for sexual assault``
Mark Yetman’s light sentencing is another example of how rape culture privileges the rights of the rapist while disavowing those of the victims. The 2 years (less a day) sentencing allows Mark Yetman to serve his time in a provincial prison, or possibly even carry out part of his sentence as community service.

Earth Day
This April, just like every April since 1970, we will be celebrating Earth Day. A day we give thanks to this marvelous World we inhabit that, in its perfect balance, can support a plethora of life; the only place in the known universe that is able to support life.

Go see 42
I can remember the Brooklyn Dodgers and Jackie Robinson. I became a Dodger fan in the fall of 1952. They lost to the damn Yankees in 7 games that year. I was 10 years old and cried, but I had learned that Robinson was famous, I assumed because he was a great player.

Senior’s night in the Bronx
If this was 2007, the New York Yankees may have managed to bring together one of the greatest baseball teams in history this season. However, it’s 2013 and as a result, the Yankees are just old. The Yankees were already the oldest team in Major League Baseball (MLB) and added to this with the addition of Vernon Wells on March 26.

Waxahatchee – Cerulean Salt
Album Review
Katie Crutchfield’s new album Cerulean Salt — cerulean being a colour ranging between blue and cyan (I had to look it up) — brings a quality of production never seen before. Although the album was produced in a family member’s studio, you would be surprised to hear the difference between the debut of Waxahatchee last year, which was, in my opinion, not very memorable.

Youth Lagoon – Wonderous Bughouse
Album Review
It’s 2013. Regardless of whether you existed in 1993 or you only know it through assorted pop culturisms like The Peach Pit or flannelled shirts ramming guitars into Marshall stacks, you’ve probably found yourself wondering what happened to the last twenty years.

Peeple Watchin’ – Somethin’ to Tell Ya
Album Review
I love writing hyperbole to the point where it can be hard to take myself seriously, but trust me when I say that Somethin’ to Tell Ya is the best pop punk album of the year. Now when I say “pop punk” it needs to be defined because it means a few different things these days.

Write until the bitter end
When I think about the past five years of my life, I am overwhelmed with faces and experiences that have all shaped me into the person I am today. Though overall I have had an enjoyable and eye-opening university experience (which began back when I started as a freshman in the fall of 2008), there hasn’t been anything quite like the past two years in particular.

The Apple of my eye
Two weeks ago, the dreaded happened – my Macbook Pro “blue-screened”. I still remember the tragedy as though it was yesterday. One minute it was working and I was half-way through an episode of Shameless while lurking Facebook AND half-mindedly typing out some ridiculous assignment (I want a degree in multi-tasking), and the next I was staring into the deep blue abyss where all hope drowned.

So says the sign
A couple weeks ago on the way to school, I overheard a conversation that two girls were having about their horoscopes. While the one girl was rather optimistic, claiming that her horoscope predicted an exciting and inspiring turn of events in her life, the other criticized the notion of horoscopes all together.
