The winter holiday season has drawn to a close and the second semester of the year is officially in full swing. Along with the usual coursework, the new semester also marks the beginning of the Brock University Students’ Union’s (BUSU) annual Frost Week.
Frost Week, which begins on Monday, January 13 and runs through Friday, Jan. 17, presents an opportunity for students to ease into the second semester with a number of events and activities that seek to reconnect them with other students on campus.
On Jan. 13 and 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., students will be able to skate in an indoor ice rink inside of Isaac’s Bar and Grill. Participants can bring their own skates or borrow some from BUSU. For those who do not want to skate, the event will also feature free popcorn and hot chocolate and will also have both hockey and lacrosse inflatable games.
On Jan. 13 from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., students can attend Jeff West’s Comedy Hypnosis Show inside of the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre. This event is free for first-year students who paid the First Year Engagement Levy until capacity is reached. For all other students, entry to the show will cost $10 at the door.
The student favourite event, Dirty Bingo, will once again be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. inside of Pond Inlet. Those in attendance will experience a unique night of bingo and can win a number of intimate prizes.
On Wednesday, Jan. 15, Brock students will be able to experience the second Vendor Fair for the year. The fair will take place inside of Isaac’s Bar and Grill from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The fair seeks to introduce students to a wide array of local business, Brock services, clubs and organizations. The fair will also feature several side activities including a caricature artist and free snow cones.
Later on Wednesday from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., students will be able to attend a Headphone Disco party inside of Isaac’s Bar and Grill. The party is free to attend for first-year students who paid the First Year Engagement Levy until capacity is reached. For all other students, entry will come at a cost of $10 at the door. Though this is an all ages event, the party will have a 19+ section.
Thursday, Jan. 16 will begin with a free breakfast inside of Isaac’s Bar and Grill from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Breakfast will include pancakes, French toast, hash browns, eggs, turkey sausage, various pastries, juice and coffee. Those who desire to attend are advised to arrive as early as possible as food is limited.
On the same day from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. the 19+ party, Frost Thursday, will be held inside of Isaac’s Bar and Grill. A Brock student card is required for entry into the party.
To close off Frost Week, BUSU will be hosting a concert inside of Isaac’s Bar and Grill on Friday Jan. 17 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The concert will be headlined by German performing artist bülow with special guest Liz Lokre.
