Overnight shelters in place in Niagara Region

St. Catharines and the Niagara region have been hit by rough winds, snow, ice and cold temperatures in recent bouts of highly unstable weather. Some locals are unable to adequately protect themselves from these extreme weather conditions, so private and regional initiatives have been put in place to help these individuals.

The municipal warming centres in St. Catharines only open as the need arises and close at 6:00 p.m. To keep up with which warming centres are open during times of emergency visit stcatharines.ca/WarmingCentres. The Out of the Cold overnight shelter program runs from the times below until the next morning so that those in need aren’t left out in frigid conditions.

As the winter continues to progress in unexpected ways, residents are encouraged to monitor the weather report and keep up-to-date with knowledge about shelters, warming centres and other emergency services to help combat the extreme cold, wind, snow and ice.
