Candidate Interview:

To the best of your understanding, what is the role and responsibilities of the VPSS?

The mission of the Vice President Student Services is aimed to provide services and programs that will enhance the student experience and support the achievement of educational and personal goals.

Why have you decided to run for the position of VPSS?

I remember walking into our Brock campus as a first-year student, I remember how difficult it was for me to navigate not only myself but discover my passion. I got help and once I got the help I desired, I got inspired to help others and that has been my passion over the past three years. I have had so many ideas that would have a great impact on the student body. However, I have not been able to achieve it due to the lack of resources. I have spoken with a great amount of current and past executives during this period and have decided that in order to see the change, I must be the change at my University. It is with that great driven mindset that I decided to prepare and dedicate myself to understanding the job and what it entails. After a lot of preparation,  I am willing to learn and advocate for the institution. I am not claiming to have all the answers yet but I am willing to go above and beyond carrying out my duties if I am elected.

Why do you believe you should be elected VPSS?

I believe I should be elected because I aim to provide services and programs that would be beneficial to students not just academically but also personally. That being said, my personality is relatable, very approachable and transparent which are three vital characteristics to have if you are a nominee as well as the attributes that make one a good leader. Growing up with a common surname, it gave me a sense of community whenever I came across people with the same name. This has transpired into my life at Brock. Being called a “BADGER” has provided me with that sense of family and in order to provide adequate services and programs for my family, I have to see from their point of view. It is that fundamental belief that I am my brothers and sisters keeper that brings us together and it is with these attributes I know I am qualified for the role of Vice President Student Services.

If you needed to summarize your platform into three main issues at Brock that you believe need to be addressed, what would they be? How do you plan to address these issues?

Core Mental Health Therapy

Better O week and Frost week

Introvert Geared Activities

(Stepping Up Program)

After doing a lot of research and surveys for months now, I have come up with a series of issues that would have great impact on the welfare of students at Brock University. I would address these issues by implementing the program “Stepping up” which I already stated above. I would further expand on the use of the program at my table and also the debates so please do stay informed.

If elected what would you do differently from past VPSS?

The past VPSS did an amazing Job.Progress is made one step at a time. What I would do is to look at what was successful, what was not and implement strategies with the involvement of the “Stepping up” program to better enhance my ideas and the ideas of the student body. I would say I would progress from where she left off rather than differentiate.
