With a successful first term of the 2018/2019 school year past us, Student Life and Community Experience looks to increase student involvement and engagement during the second term of the school year in order to create a more appealing environment to students, faculty and staff of Brock University. Student Life and Community Experience acts on their motto: ‘by students, for students; with Niagara, for Niagara’.
Their aim is to help Brock students make the most of their university experience by hosting events around the Niagara community and on campus. There are several ways to get involved this semester, including the LEAP Reconnect, the On-Campus Blood Drive, VolunteerFEST and Jobs On Campus. Each of these events will connect you with Brock students, faculty and staff while allowing you to gain the knowledge and experience of being involved on campus.
LEAP Reconnect is an event based on LEAP, a community event hosted by Student Life and Community Experience for incoming Brock students. LEAP is a small group orientation, personalized to each student that provides you with the opportunities to meet new people, volunteer in the community and explore the campus that Brock has to offer. During LEAP you are led by current student leaders and mentors that aim to provide you with the best community experience possible.
This event allows students to participate in workshops to improve your skills, learn about the variety of resources on campus and aid a local community partner during a volunteer opportunity. LEAP Reconnect allows you to reconnect with the friends and community partners that you made during your first year at Brock and experience community in a whole new way. This event will be held on January 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Earp Fireplace Lounge in Earp Residence and you do not want to miss out on free food and a time to reconnect. For more information head to experiencebu.brocku.ca/events.
The On-Campus Blood Drive will be held on January 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Ian Beddis Gym on Court 4 and is a chance for you to give blood. Canadian Blood Services states that half of all Canadians, approximately 17.5 million, need blood at some time in their life.
The On-Campus Blood Drive is a great way for you to help save or improve someone’s life. To learn more about blood campus drives on campus head to experiencebu.brocku.ca/events and to learn more about blood drives held by Canadian Blood Services head to blood.ca/en/blood/donor.
VolunteerFEST, hosted by Student Life and Community Experience along with Career Education and CareerZone and Community Engagement and Volunteering provides you with the knowledge to get involved on campus and in your community. This event is open to Brock University staff, faculty and students and allows its attendees to explore a variety of organizations and career opportunities across the Niagara region.
VolunteerFEST hosts organizations from all over the Niagara region so that faculty, staff and students are able to hear first-hand how the organizations play a role in the community, This event is held in Market Hall on January 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information head to experiencebu.brocku.ca/event.
Jobs on Campus is a collaborative event hosted by Student Life and Community Experience along with Career Education and CareerZone. This event is a career fair on campus that features a variety of departments that are currently looking to hire students at Brock.
Along with job opportunities for the school term, summer employment opportunities are also available and can be spoken about with representatives. Jobs On Campus is a great one-stop-shop to find that perfect opportunity for the 2019/2020 academic school year, so don’t miss out. This event is held on January 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Market Hall and more information can be found on experiencebu.brocku.ca/event.
