Mel Gencer – Candidate Profile

Ballot Blurb:

Hey Badgers!

I’m Mel! Every democracy improves when its people have more voice and transparency about its government. The same is true for BUSU. I have several great policy proposals, with just a few of them including new ways to help improve choosing coverage plans for health and dental, proposing amendments to ethics-by-laws and allowing students more voice in key decisions! As a student in my final year who understands how to solve difficult management, financial, and human issues, I know that my skills won’t let you down when it comes to managing our administration and creating a great environment for every student to participate!

No matter your experience with BUSU or how little you know about us, I can’t stress how important it is to me that every student has a right to feel welcome to learning about their student government.

Candidate Interview:

  1. To the best of your understanding, what is the role and responsibilities of the VPFA?

“The official role of VPFA primarily deals with the health and dental plan, having a seat on senate, as well as operating the administration to ensure smooth delivery of key services to students.”

  1. Why have you decided to run for the position of VPFA?

“After looking at my skill set, taking in advice from my supporters and past and current BUSU executives, I decided to run for VPFA because of my experience in solving financial, management and human resource issues.”

  1. Why do you believe you should be elected VPFA?

“I have the most solid platform with each point being verified as feasible and almost necessary while at the same being unique and offering thorough solutions to key issues.”

  1. If you needed to summarize your platform into three main issues at Brock that you believe need to be addressed, what would they be? How do you plan to address these issues?

“Such as adding more input for students for the health and dental plan, bringing other banks or financial institutions to BUSU controlled areas of the school, persuading Thorold city council to return the Winterberry route by showing the importance of students through detailed analysis of how we benefit their economy as well as nine other key platform points, all available at”

  1. If elected what would you do differently from past VPFA’s?

“Each of my unique solutions have never been done before by any past executive, but each of them have also been corroborated as easily feasible and almost necessary by past BUSU executives. I give solutions with real plans behind them.”
