As the men’s lacrosse team started a three game road trip, their first stop was Thursday at Western for an important matchup between the two top teams in the CUFLA West division.
Brock got off to a fast start as Nick Rybka, Nico Beaudoin and Connor Ham all scored in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, Brock was leading the game 3-2. The second quarter was different however, as the Mustangs blanked the Badgers and added three of their own goals to take a 5-3 lead halfway through the game.
With 5:48 left in the third quarter, the Badgers would end up tying the game thanks to another goal by Beaudoin. The Mustangs outscored the Badgers 7-2 the rest of the way to seal the victory.
For Brock, Rybka would finish with a hat trick, while Beaudoin and Ham added two goals, and Brandon Stall would also find the back of the net. However, Western’s Ryan McCrory was too much for the Badgers to handle as he led his team to a 13-8 victory with five goals and an assist.
Alex Guiney was in net for the Badgers, as he made nine saves on 22 shots. Western’s Manraj Nijjar made 11 saves on 19 shots and picked up the win for his team.
The next game was in Toronto against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday and this time the Badgers found the result they are used to. They were on the winning end of a 14-10
The game was never really competitive as Brock came storming out of the gates with five unanswered goals in the first quarter.
The Badgers had nine different goal scorers including Ham, who once again had a strong game with a hat trick. Kyle Pedwell and Dylan Laprade each added a pair of goals. Brock’s Josh Wood earned the victory in net.
The biggest news of the day came when Brock’s Brandon Slade collected his 200th CUFLA point with a two goal, two assist performance. The fourth year veteran currently leads the CUFLA with 16 assists through six games.
The final game of the week for the Badgers came on Sunday where they took on Laurentian in Sudbury. They came away with another victory in a 14-9 game.
Ham continued his dominating week with another four goal performance. Beaudoin, Slade, Rybka, Matt Bourassa and Grayson Houghton all added two goals each in the win. Luke McLeod picked up the win in net with a seven save performance.
For Laurentian, Sam Postma had an outstanding game with seven points (3G, 4A). Goalie Ian Walters made 10 saves.
The Brock men’s lacrosse team entered the week with a 3-0 record and finished this week with an overall record of 5-1, placing them in first place in the CUFLA West division. They currently sit two points ahead of Western (4-1). The Badgers and Mustangs have given each other their only losses of the season.
Brock’s next game is scheduled for October 1 at 7:00 p.m. at home against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
