Goodman Business group plans Innovation Day

The Brock Innovation Group (BIG) is working together with the Goodman School of Business to host the “Goodman Innovation Day,” a day designed to encourage, inspire and celebrate innovation.
Innovation Day will take place on Tuesday, March 22. The day is focused around two main events: Innovation Matters, and Monster Pitch.

Innovation Matters brings a panel of notable Canadian entrepreneurs to the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC), who will discuss the importance of innovation to business success. The panelists will discuss pressing issues related to business innovation. This first event will begin at 11:00 a.m.

The panel includes Dragons’ Den Chairman Jim Treliving, Round13 co-founder Bruce Croxon, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Spark Power Corp. Jason Sparaga and Corporate Director and Co-founder of Women Get on Board, Deborah Rosati. Goodman claims that the panel “will speak candidly about the issues and opportunities present in today’s ever-changing business world.”

After the Innovation Matters event, the Innovation Day will then feature Monster Pitch, happening at 1:00 p.m., also at the PAC. This is not the first time that Monster Pitch has been run at Brock, and it has now been established as an annual Goodman event.

Monster Pitch will see students presenting business ideas to a panel of experts (the same four experts from the earlier Innovation Matters event), who will then give feedback and judge pitches. Successful participants have the chance to win large prizes; in the past, the grand prize has been worth over $30,000 in cash and other services related to business.

BIG, the group that works with Goodman to run this day of innovation, is a group of students whose primary goal is to support entrepreneurship at Brock and the Niagara Community. Monster Pitch is BIG’s most prominent event (their website refers to it as their “flagship”), but they also run other events including their Kickstart Weekend, and talks by guest speakers.

Tickets for both events are $10. More information is available at goodmanbig.com
