For those Brock students working their way through their final year, the Brock University Alumni Association (BUAA) presents the 2016 Grad Send-Off, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate their impending graduation.
Though graduates will be saying goodbye to the Brock campus, all the experiences and connections they’ve made during their time here will stay with them. Several fourth year students share some of the opportunities that Brock has given them.
“Brock has given me the chance to build so many employable skills through my extracurricular involvement,” said Olivia Hubert, a fourth-year Nursing student.
“I want to thank my TA’s for helping me plan for the future, I loved my experience at Brock and I hope it will help me land a job with the RCMP,” added Amanda De Melo, a fourth-year Sociology major.
“I have had a very positive experience at Brock, there has always been lots of events and I have always felt included in the community. I established great connections and skills necessary for my future job,” added Meghan Meechan, also a fourth-year Sociology student.
The 2016 Grad Send-Off will feature a variety of networking opportunities, giveaways and resume builders.
Professionals from different sectors will be present to talk to and and make important connections for future careers. There will also be an opportunity to have your resume edited, to update your LinkedIn profile with professional photos, and to take a picture with Boomer.
With the hashtag ‘#payitforward’, students can make monetary contributions to the 2016 Class Gift which will be used to help other students in need. Most students know the feeling of trying to get by on very little money, and these donations allow graduates to leave another legacy behind by giving back to future students.
There will be lots of free giveaways throughout the entire day, including Brock swag, an appetizer buffet, and a wine-tasting from the BUAA wine reserve. As well, the Campus Store will be providing a 20 per cent discount on all diploma frames and insurance companies will be offering discounts on home and car insurances.
The highlight of the Grad Send-Off will be speaker Matt Santoro, YouTube star and Brock alumnus himself. Santoro graduated from Brock 2012 with a Master in Accounting. He has been awarded the Young Alumni Award this year and will be sharing about his journey into the adult world.
The 2016 Grad Send-Off will take place on Mar. 29 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Isaac’s. To pre-register, and be entered to win Leafs tickets, go to eventbrite.ca/e/2016-grad-send-off-registration-21280701150
