The Quebec government partnering with the Canadian Red Cross, are sending beds and bed covers to Syrian refugees in Germany according to Quebec’s Public Security Minister Lise Thériault.
Cots identical to the one in the picture, are already on their way to Germany and the donation itself is valued at approximately $1 million.
According to Michel Léveillé, the head of the red cross’s Quebec divisions, normally donations like this would be made in cash, but Germany specifically required physical donations like the beds.
Quebec’s announcement came nearly a week after they said they would increase the number of refugees from 1,200 to 3,600 for 2015/2016.
“Six thousand people a day, it’s a huge logistic challenge, so all other needs related to food, to health, first-line health program, they’re well covered. It’s the basic logistic that needs to follow the influx of refugees,” said Léveillé, explaining why Quebec sent cots and blankets.“Our experience is to navigate in those complex environments, but our mission and our focus is to provide assistance and get where vulnerable people are” said Léveillé.
