Film Review: The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

This reboot of the classic 60’s series is one of this summer’s top films. To be honest, I was a bit sceptical going into it. I’m happy to say, however, that the film did not disappoint on the trailer’s promise of a witty, comedic spy film.

The plot of the movie follows two enemy spies in the 1960’s who are forced to wThe-Man-From-U.N.C.L.E.-2015-Imagesork together on the behalf of their respective nations. Napoleon Solo (played by Henry Cavill), an American ex-thief turned CIA superspy, and Illya Kuryakin (played by Armie Hammer), a Russian KGB superspy with a short temper, are forced to work as a team to take down a mysterious criminal organization attempting to build nuclear weapons.

The film is based off of the 1964-68 television series of the same name. It too was known for its charm and wit.

I highly recommend seeing this film if given the opportunity. Fans of Bond-like spy movies or the original series will be impressed both by the thrilling action, but also the mastery with which it utilizes comedy. The trailer doesn’t do the complexity of the film’s plot and execution justice. Everything from the acting to the uncommon vibes and atmospheres absolutely made a fan out of me.
