About us
The Niagara Roller Girls (“NRG”) league was formed in 2012, and is Niagara’s first and only all-women, full-contact, flat-track roller derby league. We currently have three home teams, (Sisters of Anarchy, Rink Rash Rebels, and Doomsday Darlings), a junior team, (Midway Mayhem) and a travel team, (The Green Belt Riot). We are completely devoted to the training and development of new, competitive, and recreational flat track roller derby talent, offering skilled instruction for beginners to elite level skaters. We at Niagara Roller Girls welcome anyone who has a desire to lace on a pair of quad skates.

Mission
We are a grassroots, volunteer driven league that offers and fosters empowerment through athletic and creative outlets for women. With a focus in athleticism and community involvement, we pride ourselves on having an incredibly diverse group of women from all walks of life in our league. We are mothers, nurses, students, teachers, artists, engineers, and activists. We are made up of strong-willed and determined women who have found a new way to meet friends, a new way to be involved in supporting their local community, and most importantly a new way to challenge themselves physically and mentally in what has become the fastest growing sport in the world. Niagara Roller Girls embodies the values of friendship, empowerment, dedication, discipline and a “for the skater, by the skater” philosophy. We demonstrate positive roles for women and act as contributing members of our communities, giving back through outreach, volunteering and fundraising.

Community Initiatives
We are constantly striving to give back to our community. We always try making appearances at parades, blood drives, clothing drives, races, safety fun fairs and any other opportunity that is made available to us.

We had a group of our girls spend twenty-four hours in their cars for the 2015 No Fixed Address event raising awareness of hidden homelessness in our community. We were able to raise over $1100 to donate to the No Fixed Address Campaign, and we plan on topping that next year!

We recently headed a blood drive with Canadian Blood Services. We had eleven members donate, with four of them being first time donors! We had five walk-ins donate because of our volunteers with signs outside of the clinic. Our goal was to obtain thirty-two units for the clinic, we collected forty-eight!

We had a group of our girls raise donations for the Center for Addiction and Mental Health, ‘Out of the Darkness’ campaign. We were able to raise and donate $1600!

At all of our bouts, we donate our 50/50 winnings to a different charity of our choice, along with any tangible donations collected by our skaters. Most recently, we packed backpacks with school supplies, snacks, and socks for Community Care. Previously we have collected sunscreen and bug spray for FACS Niagara Summer Smiles, snacks and supplies for the RAFT, and we also collected and donated over fifty formal dresses, shoes and accessories for the ‘Prom Project’ campaign by the Education Foundation of Niagara. Some of our other community involvement include: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Canadian Blood Services, Quest Community Health Centre, Westview Centre 4 Women, YMCA’s Cycle for Strong Kids, FACS Niagara, ‘Walk for Women’ by Gillian’s Place, Hope Centre Welland, No Fixed Address, Center for Addiction and Mental Health, Sparkwatch Dog Training, SPCA, RAFT, Community Care Food Bank, Tender Wishes, NAC & STRUTT, Grape & Wine Parade, and the Superstore Safety Fun Fair.

Volunteer Opportunities
Being a league that is run for the skaters, by the skaters, we depend on our skaters and volunteers to get everything done and bring a fun and exciting derby game to our fans! We would be nowhere without our Volunteers: Referees, Non-Skating Officials, photographers, and anyone who has helped make NRG what it is today. We are always on the look out for anyone who is interested in participating at any level.
