CUPE 4207-Unit 3 reached a tentative agreement with Brock University at 6:00 a.m. on Mar. 15. The Board of Trustees will ratify this agreement following the vote by union members, taking place on Mar. 18 at 5:00 p.m.
According to the union’s website, over 60 ESL instructors and community supporters rallied outside Four Points Sheraton Hotel on Mar. 14, with placards reading “It’s Time to Talk” and “It’s Time to Listen”. Throughout the day, University administration, union members and a government-appointed mediator bargained for a new agreement starting at 10:00 a.m., reaching the tentative agreement after a marathon meeting.
“…our members showed their frustration with the university administration’s poor bargaining record over the past eight months,” read CUPE’s official website.
This tentative agreement comes almost a year after the previous agreement expired in July 2014, following the ESL instructors’ initial strike in March 2012.
As a result of the agreement, the Mar. 17 strike deadline has been dissolved.
