Nominations for the 2015 St. Catharines Arts Awards will be ending on Feb. 13 for the May 30th awards presentation
With spring just around the corner, so too is the annual St. Catharines Arts Awards, where the finest in artistic talent and entrepreneurship will be celebrated for their accomplishments within the St. Catharines community.
The recipients in all award categories will be announced and presented on May 30 at the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre at Brock University. Winners will receive a certificate of recognition, as well as a $400 cash award.
This is the St. Catharines Arts Awards’ 10th year and with each year the ceremony continues to recognize the achievements of artists and cultural organizations, while celebrating leaders and innovators within the artistic and cultural sphere of St. Catharines.
The 2014 Arts Awards saw a record-breaking 32 nominations, demonstrating the amount of recognizable talent and commitment to arts and culture there is in St. Catharines. It will be exciting to see this year’s turnout, as the artistic community has since grown. With plenty of time left to nominate artists and organizations, the following categories will feature awards:
Arts in Education: This award is sponsored by the Department of Dramatic Arts and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts at Brock University. It is awarded to an individual, collective or organization who has engaged community members through educational artistic activities.
Emerging Artist Award: Sponsored by Brock University’s Centre for the Arts, this award is presented to an artist of any discipline and celebrates their current accomplishments and acknowledges their future potential. This award is geared toward anyone who is looking to pursue art professionally.
Established Artist Award: This award is sponsored by the New Performing Arts Centre in downtown St. Catharines and is given to a local artist in any discipline who has received recognition for their practice within the community and beyond. Nominees should have at least ten years of experience in their practice and have made an impact in the city.
Making a Difference Award: This award is sponsored by the Department of Visual Arts and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. It is presented to an artist, arts administrator, arts entrepreneur or arts organization who has contributed to the artistic development within the St. Catharines community.
Patron of the Arts Award: This award is sponsored by the St. Catharines Downtown Association and is given to an individual or business that has contributed to the artistic community in St. Catharines through innovative, transformative and entrepreneurial partnerships or contributions.
