After that well-deserved snow day, it’s time to put away your Dance, Dance Revolution video game, because Brock Dance and other regional performers are ready to showcase their talents at the upcoming benefit and recital on Feb. 8. This fifth annual event is intended as a fundraiser, with all proceeds going to community partner, RAFT: Supporting Niagara Youth.
RAFT provides support services and resources to at-risk youth across the Niagara region, helping individuals become independent and self-sufficient. Operated through the Niagara Resource Service for Youth, RAFT has been a community partner with Brock over the last several years, welcoming volunteers during Brock Cares Day of Service, an annual event every September.
Brock Dance has been supporting RAFT for the last two years while simultaneously giving their well-trained, competitive dance team the opportunity to showcase their unique talents during the recital. This benefit will also feature dancers from throughout the Niagara region, and even the Greater Toronto Area, including performers from studios such as Rhythm Plus, CM Dancing, Ballet Etc., Creative Dance Company, Rhythm 2 Dance and A.N. Myer.
Youth who participate in RAFT programs will also be attending the event in reserved front row seats along with VIP treatment throughout the night.
“The best thing about Brock Dance, and this event itself, is the fostering of community. We get to do something that we love, which is dancing, with other people who have the same passion. It makes us feel like we’re part of something greater,” said Nicole Kellar, a member of Brock Dance for the last four years, and this year’s Vice-president of Social Events.
“I hope the audience really enjoys the performances by our talented Brock dancers, as well as all of the other participants from Niagara. All we can hope for as a club is that our efforts are making a difference in the community.”
Throughout the year, Brock Dance teaches dance classes for beginners and competitive performers in a variety of styles such as jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, lyrical, musical theatre, Irish, ballroom, highland, contemporary, modern and K-pop. These classes take place every Monday and Thursday evening from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. in the Cairns Complex or in the mezzanine above the Walker Complex cafeteria.
Brock Dance is also looking forward to their upcoming Dance Night club fundraiser on Feb. 26 in Isaac’s Bar and Grill, as well as their recital on Mar. 21, for which club members passionately work throughout the year.
The show will be taking place in the David Howes Theatre from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Centre for the Arts box office and online. Students can purchase tickets for $10.00 and regular admission is $13.00. For more information about the club, classes and their events, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit brockdance.com.
