Riding in style

Brock University Athletics recently unveiled a tour bus that the badgers will take on tour for away games as well as varsity games around the city. The bus is fully decked out in Badger graphics, and is intimidating as a honey badger itself. Seeing the bus pull into an event this season with the tagline, “100 championships and counting” is sure to raise cheers from any loyal Badger crowd, especially with the upcoming Homecoming games.

Men’s Lacrosse starts season on a high note

Opening their 2014 CUFLA season against the Laurier Golden Hawks, the Brock University men`s lacrosse team prevailed with a final of 33-3.

Playing on the road at Laurier, the teams both scored early in the game, with the Badgers eventually putting out an astounding 19 goals without giving any back in the third quarter. This was followed by 13 more and none yielded in the final, with newcomer Justin Avbar in goal.

Of the 14 scoring players on Brock`s side, Kyle Davis (Caledon East, Ont.) led the pack with five goals and four assists, totalling a game – high nine points.

You can see the men next against the McMaster Marauders on Sept. 13 at 2:00 p.m. and the Guelph Gryphons on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m., here at Brock University.

Brock men’s soccer falls to opponents

This past Saturday afternoon, the men’s soccer team were denied any goals in a loss against the Windsor Lancers on Brock Badger’s Field.

Both sides showed a great effort in the first half of play, with each gaining a key scoring opportunity but ultimately failing to capitalize on them at the credit of each side’s keeper. The game remained at 0-0 long past the half-way minute.

However, early in the second half the Lancers would gain two in less than as many minutes, with Bobby Evans (#47) and Kyle Ruggaber (#48) putting one each past Brock’s keeper Jake Sweetzer (Mississauga, Ont.) without assist.

At the other goal, Winsdor’s keeper Sam Atkin tallied six saves for the shutout, with Sweetzer picking up three to drop his season record to 0-1-2.

OUA opener sees Brock baseball beat McMaster 

baseball.courtesyofgobadgersThis past Sunday, Brock’s baseball team (2-0 OUA, 8-0 overall) took the McMaster Marauders for two games at Bernie Arbour Stadium in Hamilton. The OUA season opened with two-games on the road, won by Brock at 15-1 and 15-0.

In the first game the Badgers gained 15 runs with senior Chris Anderi (Tecumseh, Ont.) leading with 4-for-4 and four RBI.

On the other side, Marauder Travis Flint led his crew with just under half the team’s score, going 2-for-3.

Pitching for Brock was Daniel Veres, a southpaw throwing five innings and giving no runs on six hits, with only three walks and a strikeout. Pitching relief were Dylan Perago and Matt Watson, each throwing a single shutout inning.
