As elusive as relaxation may seem to a busy student, it is essential to find a little bit of time to unwind and put your feet up to help keep yourself sane amidst all the academic chaos. The Café Crawl is the perfect remedy for any stress and tension that life throws your way. For the fifth year in a row, the folks at Student Life & Community Experience are offering the unique opportunity to showcase the sophisticated and cultured side of St. Catharines for a night of conversation, coffee and classic café atmosphere for all interested students.
The event will take place on Sept. 18 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and the group will be taking the bus (the Glenridge 116 is the most direct route) from outside of the Schmon Tower to the downtown core. With similar structure to the popular Pub Crawl event, people participating in the Café Crawl will march their ways between a number of local cafés sampling the best of what they have to offer, meeting new people and enjoying a series of cafés and unique locations that they might have otherwise not known existed.
As much fun as a night out at the bar or club can be, it isn’t an option for underage first-year students or those that choose not to drink. Additionally, being stuck on campus for weeks on end can get old, quickly, which is why this event has enjoyed such successful turnouts in past years. The evening will be entertaining, and the chance to visit some of St. Catharines’ finest cafés and coffeehouses will be rewarding. Especially with the discounted prices for coffee and treats along the crawl route. With live music and open mic nights being a staple of the traditional café vibe, participants can enjoy the musical styling’s of some of St. Catharines’ local talent while sipping comfortably on fancy lattes.
In previous years, the Café Crawl has included establishments such as the Mahtay Café and Lounge, Coffee Culture Café and Eatery and the Fine Grind Café to name a few, all of which are conveniently located within close proximity of each other. The Café Crawl is a way to enlighten students to the wealth of experiences that not only Brock University has to offer, but the surrounding community as well. Most students call St. Catharines home for around four or five years (depending on the program and circumstances), and this is a great way to become better acquainted with everything available to them within the city. Each establishment boasts their own unique brand of drinks and décor, providing the Café Crawlers with a variety of sights, sounds, smells and tastes; a true mosaic of St. Catharines’ coffee culture.
Whether you are a fan of coffee, in need of some relaxation or looking to find your very own ‘Central Perk’ with a group of friends, the Café Crawl is an experience that should not be missed.
If you are interested in joining the group for this event, please visit the Brock University Student Life and Community Experience webpage under the events heading and fill out the RSVP form to register for the Café Crawl.
