BARC Christmas Food and Toy Drive
Brock Animal Rights Club is holding their second annual Christmas Food and Toy Drive for the Lincoln County Humane Society.
Date: Nov. 28, and Nov. 29.
Time: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. both days.
Location: Mackenzie Chown A-Block.
The Humane Society’s wish list includes donations of cat and dog food, kitty litter, large dog toys, towels, blankets, leashes and collars, heat lamps, as well as office supplies. We will also be accepting donations of pocket change, and Canadian Tire Money, so come empty your pockets.We hope you will come visit our table and try out some free vegan Christmas cookies. Art as a Hammer of Love Exhibit
Location: Strega Caf, 19 King Street (corner of William Street), St. Catharines.
An exhibit of recent works by June-Etta Chenard will be shown at the Strega Caf from Nov. 1-30. Chenard is a social commentary paper artist who exhibits and teaches in Canada and the United States. This is her first solo exhibit since returning to Canada three years ago. For details please call (905) 685-1022.
Upcoming Training Session for Volunteer Crisis Workers
The Distress Centre will be holding a three-day condensed training session for individuals looking to volunteer with our organization. Nov. 18, 19 and 25.
Distress Centre:
provides a free, confidential 24-Hour Distress Line
uses trained volunteers
assists callers to solve their own problems
provides information and referrals
intervenes in life-threatening situations
provides extensive pre-service training programs for distress line
provides suicide prevention and intervention workshops
gives communication skills training
Time: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

BUFS Presents Manufactured Landscapes with special guest Edward Burtynsky
On Nov. 19, the Brock University Film Society (BUFS) and the Department of Visual Arts proudly welcome special guest Edward Burtynsky. He will join us for our screening of Manufactured Landscapes (from Canadian producer Jennifer Baichwal), named Best Canadian Feature at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. Baichwal’s film follows the much acclaimed Canadian photographer Burtynsky while he travels the globe shooting landscapes transformed through commercial recycling, manufacturing and industrial production. An arresting portrayal of the effects of globalization through the photographic eye. Tickets are $6 for members/students and $8 for non-members.

Smart Serve Certification
If you are planning on working in a bar, restaurant, dance club, banquet hall, golf course or anywhere else that alcohol is served in Ontario, you require Smart Serve training? The government of Ontario has made this program mandatory for door persons, wait staff, bartenders, bar-backs, managers and owners of establishments that serve alcohol. We offer a 2.5 hour video training course facilitated by an experienced instructor that ends with a multiple choice quiz – upon receiving a passing mark you will receive certification and a Smart Serve pin.
Register and pay on Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 in Vallee Residence, Suite #200 between 1-4 p.m.
