Prior to this past weekends Ontario University Athletics (OUA) baseball final the 2001 Men’s Baseball All-Stars and Award Winners were announced.Brock University led all teams with four players selected to the All-Star team, while the University of Western Ontario has three players on the squad. York and McMaster both had two players named while the first place University of Toronto Varsity Blues closed out the All-Stars with one player earning all-conference honours.
The Most Valuable Player voting resulted in a tie between Ryan Stewart of the York Yeomen and Brock’s Dan Baribeau. The Badgers’ Baribeau finished third in the OUA in batting, his .429 average included five doubles, 13 RBI and one home run. Stewart led the OUA in batting with a .511 average, which included a league high 24 hits. Toronto Varsity Blue Brian Dikdan was named the OUA Most Valuable Pitcher. Dikdan finished the season with a 3-1 record, 0.75 ERA and recorded 24 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Coach of the Year honours went to Mike Lumley of the University of Western Ontario, the Mustangs finished the season with a 9-5 record and in third place in the OUA.
