Duncan named male Brock University/Sports Obsession athlete of the weekThe Brock University/Sports Obsession male athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 28 is basketball player Jamie Duncan.
Duncan, a fifth-year sports management student, get’s the honours for the second time as he led the Badgers to victories over the Ottawa GeeGees and the Concordia Stingers to capture the Clint Dunning Memorial Tournament Championship.
In the championship game versus the host Ottawa GeeGees, Duncan had 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals and was named the tournament’s MVP. He also became the first player in Brock basketball history to record over 1500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.
In Saturday’s 95-80 defeat of Concordia Duncan added 25 points while going 9-9 from the foul line.
Women fall to 1-1; Somerville stops 50 shots
Brock’s women’s hockey team fell to 1-1 on the season after suffering a 6-2 loss at the hands of the Queen’s Golden Gaels. Despite the loss, the highlight of the night was the performance of Brock netminder Lindsay Sommerville.
Sommerville stopped 50 of 56 shots in the loss.
The Badgers stayed close for the first 20 minutes but undisciplined play in the third enabled Queen’s to score two powerplay goals en route to a 6-2 win.
