Larkin Lamarche (pictured, right) of Port Colborne, is the Badgers women’s basketball top recruit for the 2001-02 season. Lamarche had an outstanding career at Port Colborne HS as a five-sport athlete in basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball and badminton. She earned Female Athlete of the Year twice, was a five time MVP in basketball and twice an Ontario MVP. She also earned MVP honours in badminton, volleyball and soccer. The 19-year-old 5-6” guard/small forward’s strengths are her defense, three-point range, positive attitude and work ethic.
Before deciding on Brock she had scholarship offers from U.S. schools and was approached by a number of CIAU institutions. Lamarche says she chose Brock for the program and academic scholarship opportunities. She has already been awarded the HH Knoll academic scholarship as well as the Excellence in Education bursary from the District School Board of Niagara. “Brock gives me the opportunity to excel in both academics and athletics. The physical education program is one of the top in Ontario,” says Lamarche, who hopes to become a phys ed teacher after graduating.
